“It's nice to be able to make a good living for myself, without having to worry or even think about my visual impairment."
Ever since Kevin Mossberger was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a type of Cone-Rod Dystrophy, he has set out to be known for who he is – not his visual impairment.
“My visual impairment really never crosses my mind,” says Kevin. “I cope with it the best I can and never let it slow me down.”
Before coming to Bosma Enterprises, Kevin obtained a degree in Business Management from Vincennes University. After graduation, Kevin began working with a job placement service. Kevin realized the job placement service was not doing much for him and he was stuck in a rut. That’s when he discovered Bosma Enterprises.
“My parents forced me into giving Bosma Enterprises Center-Based Services a try, but I had no intentions of staying here –now I never want to leave.”
Growing up in Evansville, IN, which is about three and a half miles South of Indianapolis, Kevin enjoyed riding four wheelers and growing up with his four siblings: Nick, Mike, Chris and Crystal. His two younger siblings, Chris and Crystal, have the same visual impairment as Kevin – Retinitis Pigmentosa.
Reflecting back on his training at Bosma Enterprises’ Center-Based Services, Kevin is grateful for the experiences he gained from the program. His favorite part being was the Build-A-Computer Program. Kevin feels he walked away a more open-minded individual.
“I learned to live on my own and left the program with a whole new outlook,” says Kevin. “I realized when we are given an opportunity, we must take everything that is offered and use it to our advantage.”
That is exactly what Kevin began doing. After leaving Bosma Enterprises’ Center-Based Services, he began working for Yellow Cab. After gaining knowledge from that experience, Kevin realized he wanted something more for himself. That’s when Kevin applied for a job at Bosma Enterprises.
Ever since that time, Kevin has gained all types of skills by working in several different departments, including his current position as a Supervisor and Machine Operator in the Surgical Glove room.
Everyday Kevin walks into the doors of Bosma Enterprises smiling and optimistic. From lighting up the room with his positive attitude and smile to his hard work ethic, Kevin is truly unique.
“I really appreciate having the opportunity for a future and employment at a company that appreciates my efforts, says Kevin. “It’s nice to be able to make a good living for myself, without having to worry or even think about my visual impairment.”
