Bosma’s Employment Services Program dedicates itself to decreasing the staggering unemployment rate by assisting individuals who are blind, visually impaired prepare for, obtain and maintain successful employment.

Our staff also works with private and public sector employers to make recommendations for appropriate adaptations when hiring or retaining an employee who is blind or visually impaired to ensure they remain efficient and successful on the job.

Individual Employment Placement

Bosma works with individuals to develop a strategy and the skills to achieve their employment goals.  This full-service program provides 1) resume and cover letter writing, 2) interviewing techniques and 3) job leads

Employer Awareness and Education

The placement staff also works closely with employers and can provide a job site or task performance analysis in order to identify and assist in the coordination of any necessary job modifications that will make your employees productive and efficient.

Employee Retention Assistance

Bosma frequently assists employers in the retention of a current employee experiencing job changes due to vision loss.  Individuals who are in need of site support may receive initial job coaching to make them confident, self-sufficient, efficient and successful in doing their job as they have always done, by verifying that all potential barriers have been identified and addressed.

Job Retention Program

Vision loss does not decrease an individual’s productivity; some job duties may just need to be performed differently.  Our job retention services might include procedures such as:

  • Maximizing vision through optical devices
  • Maximizing productivity through job assessment and accommodations
  • Specialized equipment and training
  • Consulting with computer technicians for software and hardware compatibility
  • Training employees to travel independently in the office and off-site
  • Educating staff on the abilities of people who are blind or visually impaired to ease the transition and address co-workers concerns
