BEP Assessment
The Bosma Rehabilitation Center is working in partnership with the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services (BRS) and Blind and Visually Impaired Services (BVIS) to assess an individual’s readiness for entrance into the Business Enterprise Program (BEP).
The BEP is authorized from the federal mandate of the Randolph- Sheppard Act; which gives preference to individuals who are blind or visually impaired to manage certain business opportunities in government locations.
Participants in the one week assessment will be asked to demonstrate skills required for inclusion in the BEP training classes and readiness to participate in training that educates the candidate in the operation of a successful business.
During the assessment the candidate will demonstrate skills in several areas:
• Orientation and Mobility
• Keyboarding
• Computer and Microsoft programs
• Math
• Communication and Organization
• Manual Skills
• Cleaning
• Safety
• Community Resources
Skill performance in the above areas is scored according to a rating system established in conjunction with the Bosma Rehabilitation Center and the BEP Selection Committee. The Committee has set a required overall percentage score necessary for a candidate to be accepted into the BEP Training Program. Evaluation results are forwarded to the BEP Administrators and the BEP candidate’s Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
Interested parties should contact their Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to express their desire to be a BEP Business Owner and discuss eligibility requirements. Once eligibility is determined, the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor will make the necessary accommodations with the BEP Administrators and Bosma Rehabilitation Center.
